Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. It means spending more time with family doing all the fun fall activities.
Now that we have a daughter we are trying to start more traditions for each season or holiday.
We do some of these things every year and love it, I can’t wait to do more this year!
Here are some of our favorite fall season activities!
1. Go to a pumpkin patch
Who doesn’t love going to a pumpkin patch? Especially with kids, it’s so fun to see their excitement as they pick the perfect pumpkin. We do this every year and it is one of our top favorite fall activities for families.
2. Go on a hay ride
Hay rides are also great with kids, they get to see and experience new things and you get to see the joy and excitement on their faces. We go on a hayride every year at the pumpkin patch. The guide teaches us all about farming in our area and it’s really interesting. The kids love it!
3. Go to a corn maze
Around here there are a couple regular corn mazes for adults but then some places also have mini corn mazes for smaller children. The kids love getting lost in the corn and running around trying to find the way out. It’s also great for the parents because it let’s the kids get out a lot of energy.
4. Carve a pumpkin
This is a must do! It’s so fun to see what kids want to carve each year, it really shows their personality. It’s also fun to see the changes from year to year and how they slowly are able to do more and more of the carving themselves. It also makes for great outdoor decor for Halloween.
5. Bake some fall treats
Who doesn’t love pumpkin bread and apple cinnamon muffins? Fall treats are the best and baking with kids makes great memories. Even if you don’t have kids this is still a great fall activity.
6. Have a craft day
You can craft decor items, gifts, or pretty much anything you like. We love making DIY fall decor for around the house. It’s also fun to let the kids get involved and let them get creative. Let them make some fall decorations and you’ll have memories to pull out each year and look back on.
7. Collect leaves
Ok so this one isn’t so much for adults but more for children. Kids seem to be fascinated with all the different types of leaves and the different things going on in nature right now. This is a great outdoor fall activity that is free and super easy. Let them collect some leaves and then glue them to paper or make a paper plate wreath out of them.
8. Go apple picking
This is something we haven’t done but I’ve been wanting to for a while. This seems like a great fall activity for families to do together. Go apple picking and see the excitement your kids get from picking their own food.
9. Make homemade applesauce
After you go apple picking you can come home and make homemade applesauce. It’s super easy! When we make it we just peel and cut up the apples, put them in a crockpot with a little water and cinnamon and let them cook on low until they are soft. Then you just mash them up to the consistency that you like and Tada! you have homemade applesauce that is super yummy!
10. Go to a haunted house
This one definitely isn’t for kids, but adults need to have fun too! We used to love going to haunted houses, it’s a great fall date night activity.
11. Go to the fair
All of our local fairs are in the fall and it’s perfect. The weather is cooler but not too cold and it just feels like fall to go to the fair. This is a great family activity or good for a date night with your spouse. We love going without Braelynn and just acting like kids again and riding the rides.
12. Have a movie night
There are so many great fall movies to watch. If you’re having a family movie night then you could watch the fall Charlie Brown movies or Halloweentown. If you are having a date night, there are plenty of scary movies to choose from. Either way this makes for a great indoor fall activity.
13. Do a fall scavenger hunt
This one requires a little work beforehand but it can be so much fun. There are plenty of templates on Pinterest for things to look for on a fall scavenger hunt. Print one of those out and let your kids go searching for all the fun fall things. They will love the challenge and you will love watching them run around.
14. Have a bonfire
To me a bonfire just screams fall. We live in the city so big bonfires aren’t an option but we do love starting a fire in the fire pit from time to time. It’s nice to sit outside by the fire and talk.
15. Make s’mores
Another perk to starting a fire is s’mores! I love s’mores and get so excited when we make them. This is a great activity for kids but you definitely need adult supervision. I have to say this is probably one of my most favorite fall activities for families.
16. Have a Halloween food/candy taste test
This is something new I want to try this year. There are all kinds of Halloween treats and candy out right now and I want to have a fun taste test. I think this would be fun with kids or even with just adults. You get to have fun and you get to eat sweets so it’s a win win!
17. Go Halloween costume shopping
You probably need to do this anyway so why not make it fun. You can take your kids to the store and let them explore and figure out what they want to be. They will have so much fun looking at all the different options and crazy things available.
18. Make caramel apples
Caramel apples make me think of the fair which makes me think of fall. I’ve never made caramel apples but might have to make some for my husband this year. I’m not a fan of caramel but love chocolate covered apples which I make almost every thanksgiving. This would be a great activity and treat for the whole family.
19. Go stargazing
This would be a great fall date night activity. You could get some snacks and go lay out and look at the stars and just talk. We also have an app on our phones that tells you what each star or planet is and shows you the constellations. It’s called SkyView Lite and it’s so cool to see all the different things in the sky.
20. Go horseback riding
Horseback riding through the woods and seeing all the fall colors on the trees is a great outdoor fall activity. This could be great for older kids or for a date night.
There are so many options out there that you could do for fun fall activities but these are some of our favorite suggestions. If you enjoyed this be sure to check out our Summer Bucket List or our Vacation Bucket List!
