What toxins are in my products?
Who knew there were so many different toxins and harsh chemicals in the products we use everyday?!
There is a super long list of all the ingredients you should look out for in personal care products.
I plan to make a post with all of those ingredients and why they are bad for us but in the meantime I’ll just list the ingredients to look out for in each category.
If you want to know more you can do a simple search for that ingredient and tons of things will come up.
I will start by saying that a lot of common ingredients have been shown to be endocrine disruptors, reproductive system toxins and linked to causing cancer.
YIKES! I don’t want any of those things to happen to me so we are careful to stay away from any harmful ingredients.

It may seem overwhelming at first and you may be thinking, “How am I supposed to change everything in my home?!” Just breathe.
You don’t have to do it all at once. We just changed things out as we used up our old stuff.
We used up our toothpaste so we replaced it with a cleaner choice and so on. It also doesn’t have to be expensive.
Check online and see which option is more budget friendly and which site/store has it for the best price.
The way we try to look at it is that we can either pay a little bit more now for these products or we can pay more in the future on doctors bills when the ingredients in the traditional products we were using caused us harm.
Anyway, let’s get into the products!
Soap
Handsoap
Ingredients to look out for in hand soap:
Sodium lauryl sulfate, fragrance, parabens, sodium laureth sulfate, triclosan and dyes
Everyone Ruby Grapefruit Hand Soap
This product is EWG verified meaning it’s one they highly recommend. There is no SLS is this product and the scent in it is from essential oils. This is a great non toxic hand soap option.
This product is available in Target stores and also on Amazon.

Attitude Sensitive Skin Hand Soap- Chamomile
This product is also EWG verified but it does contain citric acid which isn’t awful but it’s not the best either. I would still recommend this product.
It is scented with extracts and is available on Amazon.
Puracy Natural Hand Soap
This product is scented with vanilla bean and lavender essential oil. It is ranked a 2 on the EWG scale. The reason for the 2 is an ingredient called Benzisothiazolinone which can irritate allergies. I would still use this product since there aren’t any major concerns.
You can purchase this hand soap at Target and on Amazon.

ECOS Hypoallergenic Hand Soap- Lavender
This product ranks a 2 on the EWG scale. This is because it contains Cocamidopropyl Betaine and phenoxyethanol which can both irritate allergies.
It is scented with oils and extracts and doesn’t contain any other bad ingredients.
You can purchase this at Walmart and it’s a great store bought natural hand soap option. You can also purchase other scents on Amazon.
Hand Sanitizer
Ingredients to look out for in hand sanitizer:
Parabens, dyes, diethanolamine, propylene glycol, fragrance, ethyl alcohol, benzalkonium chloride

Ingredients to look out for in body wash:

Dr. Bronners Pure Castile Soap Unscented Body Wash
This soap rates as a 1 on the EWG scale. This is a commonly used non toxic soap to help DIY things around your house.
You can use it as body wash, shampoo or even hand soap. I recommend the unscented one because while some of their scented ones use extracts and essential oils, a couple of them use fragrance.
Just read the label if you are wanting to use one of the scented ones to ensure they don’t contain fragrance.
You can purchase this at Target or on Amazon.

Native Lavender & Rose Body Wash
This product is rated a 3 on the EWG scale because it contains Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, and Sodium Benzoate.
These ingredients can irritate allergies and have a low possibility of toxicity but I still feel this product is a lot better than most out there.
Also a little note, essential oils aren’t regulated so EWG sometimes rates them as a higher number when they are used as ingredients. They are not harmful and just take that number with a grain of salt.
You can purchase this product at Target and on Amazon.
*** I also want to point out that some Native products contain Fragrance so you should be on the lookout for that if choosing one of their products.

Nurture My Body All Natural Baby Bar Soap, Fragrance Free Certified Organic
This product only contains three ingredients and no fragrances so it’s very clean and a great option. Also, all of the ingredients are organic.
Even though it says it’s a baby soap it’s still a great non toxic bar soap option for adults and kids. It is a 1 on the EWG scale.
This soap is available on Amazon.

Lotion
Ingredients to look out for in lotion:
BHA, fragrance, parabens, triethanolamine, formaldehyde, phthalates and dyes
Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lotion Peppermint
This lotion is rated as a 3 on the EWG scale but only because of the peppermint oil it uses.
Like I mentioned before, they don’t regulate essential oils so some of them score higher than they should.
The other ingredients in this are all a 1 or 2 so it is safe to use and I think it’s a great natural lotion option.
You can purchase this on Amazon. (This link is for a different scent because the peppermint isn’t in stock on Amazon right now).

This isn’t a traditional deodorant stick like you’re probably used to. It’s a paste that you apply to your armpits using your finger.
It is rated as a 1 by EWG and has really clean ingredients.
It is available on Amazon.
Schmidt’s Bergamot & Lime Aluminum Free Natural Deodorant Stick
This product is a 1 on the EWG scale. It is scented with essential oils. I use this brand and it’s been my favorite natural deodorant that I’ve tried.
It is great at helping with sweat and odor.

Guys! I tried so hard to find good clean shaving creams that you could purchase at the store or on Amazon but I had no luck.
All of the ones I found still have 1-2 harmful ingredients.
Honestly when I shave I just use conditioner because I’ve never been able to find one that is clean.
Toothpaste
Ingredients to look out for in toothpaste:
Fluoride, artificial flavors and colors, synthetic dyes, phthalate, sodium lauryl sulfate, carrageenan, propylene glycol and triclosan
Burt’s Bees Zen Peppermint Whitening Fluoride Free Purely White Toothpaste
This product is rated a 2 on the EWG scale because it contains natural flavor.
Now this isn’t the best ingredient but it’s better than the flavoring used in traditional toothpaste.
It does also contain carrageenan but it’s still a pretty good option if this is the one you have available.
This is available at Target and on Amazon.

Dr. Brite Mint Natural Whitening Toothpaste with Activated Coconut Charcoal
